After living a relatively low-key life since their marriage in 2014, Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross have been back in a big way since last fall. She, the former pop starlet, reality TV star and sister of Jessica Simpson; and he, a star on Fox show STAR and youngest son of diva Diana Ross, began with an idea to record an album of soulful love duets.

A documentary capturing their experience making that album turned into a full season E! pickup of Ashlee+Evan, chronicling not just the music but also their family life. For Simpson, it was a return to the medium that kick-started her career: first on her sister’s MTV show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, and later with The Ashlee Simpson Show. Ross is no stranger to the screen. He had a recurring role in The Hunger Games films, as well as the 90210 reboot. Oh, and his sister is Girlfriends and black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross. She and Diana Ross both made appearances on the new show, as did Simpson’s family.

Tying into the TV show and the six-song EP, Evan + Ashlee, is a gender-neutral clothing line that incorporates lyrics from their songs into the design. And this month, the two hit the road on their first joint tour and will play at Slim’s on Jan. 17.

Ashlee Simpson, 34, and Evan Ross, 30, made all of these moves at the same time, making them the Hollywood power couple about which you’re just now learning. It also meant the two would be spending all their time together for the foreseeable future.

“We always wanted to do this album together and then, finally, it was the right time,” Ashlee Simpson said, between tour rehearsals at their home studio in L.A. “I was either pregnant or he was on a show. … Once everything started going, it was inspiring.”

Simpson released three records between 2004 and 2008. Her debut, Autobiography, was certified triple-platinum, due in no small part to her TV presence. The chapter was marred by an infamous lip-synching incident on Saturday Night Live—one that in an era of social media would bolster fame rather than infamy. Like her debut LP, 2005’s I Am Me also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, while a third, 2008’s Bittersweet World, reached No. 4.

Her last song to chart was 10 years ago. That year she left the spotlight to raise her son with her ex, Pete Wentz. Since then, she has acted in Chicago on Broadway on a few occasions. Simpson and Ross now have a 4-year-old daughter.

When she and Ross finally had enough time to collaborate, the floodgates opened.

“It’s funny how a lot of things just come together like that,” Ross said. “There was a lot of these ideas that kind of came together at the same time in a really nice way, luckily.”

Evan + Ashlee will surprise Simpson fans looking for a nostalgia kick. Instead of emo pop anthems like “La La” and “Pieces of Me,” they’ll find mature, sometimes sexy R&B grooves. There’s the flowery ballad “I Do,” funky and seductive “Paris” and “Safe Zone,” disco-flecked “Tonic,” bluesy “I Want You” and the acoustic, poppy-yet-reserved “Home.”

They are different from each other but similar in how they layer Simpson’s sultry rasp with Ross’ smooth vocals. The couple got Ross family friend, Earth, Wind & Fire bassist Verdine White, to play on all of the tracks and produce.

We spoke to both Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross about the inspirations for these songs, working together and what they’ll be doing next: A second joint EP and solo records.

RIFF: All of your projects are intertwined. The TV show premiered the songs. The clothing featured lyrics. Was this primarily an artistic decision or business strategy?

Evan Ross: At the time, with a lot of these songs, there were little messages we were thinking of [for] the Zadig & Voltaire stuff we were doing. We were just adding our creative vibe to it, and I think at the time because we were writing songs, it came the easiest. It just made the most sense.

Your personal and professional lives are also mixed together. Is it difficult to live and work with each other 24-7?

Ashlee Simpson: No, it’s actually nice to do that. Usually, our work will take us somewhere different, or apart from each other, and it’s been fun to have this project together and get to share this time together.

Evan Ross: It actually makes things a lot easier than it would be being apart.

Evan, how did you and Ashlee convince your mom (Diana Ross) to be on the show? Did she need convincing?

Evan Ross: No, not at all. Everybody in my family knew what we were making. We were making a project around our album and sharing our lives in a way that felt special to us. It was an easy kind of a situation. It never felt like I was trying to force them to do anything; [if it did,] we wouldn’t do it.

Ashlee Simpson: Also, we wanted to do something about music and something that was a positive way to look into our lives.

Diana Ross helped you write one of the songs on the EP?

Evan Ross: It will be on the second part of the EP that we’re looking to release around February, but it’s a really special song that I’m excited that we’re doing. It’s her melody, and it’s amazing.

Which of your musical influences inspired Evan + Ashlee?

Evan Ross: A 1,000 percent, my mom. [Family friend] Michael [Jackson], of course, is a huge inspiration for me. We had Verdine White on this album, who produced on this record [and] was a huge influence on the sound of the music.

Ashlee Simpson: Yeah, he was amazing.

Evan Ross: A lot of this album felt like it was inspired by a lot of the music that we love from back in the day.

Ashlee Simpson: Yeah, it wasn’t just one sound, one genre. It was us being inspired by each other and kind of diving into a different sound for me, which was so much fun.

Ashlee, what have you learned from your previous reality TV shows that you were able to apply this time around—something you did or made sure to avoid?

Ashlee Simpson
: It was definitely like, “Oh, gosh, I haven’t done this in a long time.” This time, we produced the show, and that was nice having that control. But definitely, back in the day, my show was something I do not regret. It was amazing for my fans to be able to go on that journey with me, and I felt the support from that.

When you last toured, you played pretty big shows. Rooms like the Roxy and Slim’s are considerably smaller. Are you ready to get so close to your fans?

Ashlee Simpson: Oh my God, yeah. Even before I did those tours later in my career, I was doing the Roxy, and I was doing both smaller and big venues. I’m excited for that intimate aspect of our show.

What can fans expect from your concerts?

Evan Ross: You’re going to hear the songs you heard on the EP, as well as Ashlee is going to be doing some of her hits from back in the day.

Ashlee Simpson: Yeah, I haven’t done these in a minute!

Evan Ross: There will be some fun covers, and also it’s really intimate and close.

Evan, you’ve written and recorded a few songs before, but are primarily known for acting. Will you be doing more in music going forward?

Evan Ross: Yeah, 100 percent. We’re putting out this next EP, and then we’re going to work on my album as well. She’ll be working on her solo album. It’s going to be really fun to … have a moment to play around with this stuff and kind of share the music. We’re excited.

What will your solo records sound like?

Evan Ross: We’re in the process of figuring that out. We’re already diving into what that will be. What’s fun is [how] the stuff we’re working on right now inspires the stuff that we feel like turning into something for our solo albums. I’m sure we’ll be helping each other in the process.

When Ashlee Simpson and husband Evan Ross — youngest son of the legendary Diana Ross — kick off their “Ashlee + Evan” mini-tour at Bowery Ballroom on Monday night, they will be worrying about a certain little stage crasher: their 3-year-old daughter, Jagger.

“We’re actually nervous for the shows, ’cause when we’re in rehearsal, she won’t get off the stage,” Ross, 30, tells The Post. “She literally won’t leave the stage. She’ll dance the entire time until the end of the set.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Jagger — named after Mick, natch — would already be showing endless love for the stage: Both of her parents come from show-biz families, and now they’ve combined their musical DNA into the duo Ashlee + Evan, which released a self-titled EP in October.

The project marked a singing turn for Ross, who has acted in films (“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1” and “Part 2”) and TV (currently on Fox’s “Star”), and a recording comeback for Simpson, who hasn’t released a solo album since 2008’s “Bittersweet World.”

“I had taken a very, very long break,” says Simpson, 34, who scored her biggest hit with “Pieces of Me,” her debut single, in 2004. “For me, it was just a time when parenting and being a mom was my sole focus.” (She also has a 10-year-old son, Bronx, with ex-husband Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.)

If it weren’t for Ross’ busy acting career, “Ashlee + Evan” — which features production by Earth, Wind & Fire bassist Verdine White — probably would have happened sooner.

“I’ve always been trying to focus on music just as much as acting,” says Ross, who had previously released a couple of solo singles. “But acting is one of those things that when it comes, it comes. A project comes, you sign on and then it takes that time away. I just had to decide that I was gonna really take that time and focus on the music. Music was my first love, for sure.”

And it was music that brought the couple together.

“When we first met, we hung out in a recording studio together and listened to music,” says Ross. “From then on, we’ve always loved singing together and coming up with songs. Music was always a big part of our relationship.”

A six-song suite about love, which goes from the breezy single “I Do” to the folky closer “Home” , the “Ashlee + Evan” EP was inspired by their own romance.

“For us, it was just like conversations about love,” says Simpson. “Love is something you work on, so I wanted it to have the different textures.”

The couple sealed their love when they said their “I do’s” at Diana Ross’ Connecticut home in 2014. The mother of the groom even officiated the wedding and sang at the reception.

So has Ross — one of two children whom Diana had with her late ex-husband, Norwegian shipping magnate Arne Naess Jr. — felt pressure to live up to the Supreme One’s musical legacy? “It’s hard to say ‘live up to.’ She’s Diana Ross. At the end of the day, it’s just more about me doing what I love and being able to share that with the world.”

Along the way, Ross will take all the motherly counsel that he can get: “She gives me advice all the time . . . mostly about the business and making sure that I’m doing things right and not being taken advantage of.”

“That’s the advice you wanna listen to,” says Simpson.

They also took creative inspiration from “Diana & Marvin,” the 1973 duets album that the Motown diva did with Marvin Gaye. “Marvin and my mom’s album is one of my favorite albums,” says Ross.

Ross’ mother, his older sister Tracee Ellis Ross and Simpson’s sister, Jessica, all made cameos on the “Ashlee + Evan” reality TV series that featured the duo’s music. The six-episode run ended in October, but Ross and Simpson are in talks for future reality TV projects on the E! channel.

Of course, Simpson got her big break when she appeared on her sister’s MTV reality series, “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” which ran from 2003 to 2005, and then landed her own spinoff, “The Ashlee Simpson Show.”

“Honestly, I never really thought I would come back and do something like that,” says Simpson of her return to reality TV. “I’d been away for so long. I think it just was the right moment for us. And we were a part of it together.”

Staying together as a family is the main thing that makes this mini-tour — which will feature solo numbers as well as their duets — a special undertaking for these two baby loves.

“The majority of the time, our careers pull us apart,” says Ross, “so it’s nice to be able to have this moment with the kids and the family right now.”

“And we really like to be around each other, so it’s a good thing!,” says Simpson, with a laugh.

Standing by her sister.

Ashlee Simpson-Ross couldn’t be prouder of big sister Jessica Simpson following the latter’s recent conflict with Natalie Portman. In fact, amid rehearsing for her upcoming tour with husband Evan Ross, the ASHLEE+EVAN star reflected on the controversy with E! News’ Will Marfuggi.

I mean, I was so proud of my sister,” the “Pieces of Me” artist exclusively commented in the clip above. “She’s definitely a strong woman and she definitely stands up for herself.”

As you surely saw, the “With You” singer called out the Vox Lux actress for seemingly shaming her over a magazine cover from almost 20 years ago.

Specifically, in an interview with USA Today, Portman said, “I remember being a teenager, and there was Jessica Simpson on the cover of a magazine saying ‘I’m a virgin’ while wearing a bikini, and I was confused. Like, I don’t know what this is trying to tell me as a woman, as a girl.”

In an effort to stand up for herself, 38-year-old Simpson took to social media and publicly addressed Portman’s comments by saying she was “disappointed” to see the Oscar winner’s words. The singer turned fashion designer further defended herself by reminding Portman that “the industry we work in often tries to define us and box us in.”

While Natalie has since apologized and clarified her controversial remarks, it appears that Ashlee is beyond impressed with the way her pregnant sister handled herself.

I was like, ‘Alright! She’s pregnant and…‘” Simpson-Ross shared through laughter. “I was definitely supporting my sister, I was proud of her.”

Evan also vocalized support for Jessica as he noted that certain projects, like the magazine cover at the center of the conflict, can be “misconstrued.” Nonetheless, Ashlee and Evan were happy to report that Jessica is doing “great” during her third pregnancy.

Although Ashlee wasn’t certain of Jessica’s cravings, she hinted that she knows the little one’s due date. “I’ll let [Jessica] tell you guys,” Ashlee quipped with a playful shrug.

Hello everyone! Yesterday (December 11), Ashlee Simpson Ross and Evan Ross were the guests of the talk show ‘The Real‘. You will find short videos and pictures of their appearance.

Here are some things they discussed during the show :

Ashlee Simpson and husband Evan Ross joined “The Real” ladies on the sofa today to chat about music, their marriage, plans for 2019, and Diana Ross.

The pair, who married in 2014, said they’re like “Old farts,” but Ashlee said he still takes her on dates and makes “me feel good.”

The mom of two said the only thing they ever argue about is her choosing to go to bed at 8:30 pm.

I can have my fun though, I’m not that boring. I can go there,” Ashlee insisted and confessed to her early bedtime.

The couple kick off their joint tour in New York on January 7, and said they would be bringing the kids, Jagger Snow Ross and Bronx Wentz (Ashlee’s son with Pete Wentz), to join them at some point.

Talking about what they love about touring and more specifically tour buses, Evan dropped some name bombshells… when he said he had been on Michael Jackson’s tour bus and also his mother’s, Diana Ross.

Speaking of his mom, Evan described her as an “amazing mother.”

Loni then chimed in with a fact about the legendary “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” singer, “Let me tell you something about your mother. She was from the Brewster Projects like I was.”

Tearing up, Loni continued, “I remember as a little girl she would drive through and wave, and that gave me so much hope.”

Mix 94.1’s “Not So Silent Night” concert doesn’t happen until December 16, but Ashlee Simpson and husband Evan Ross are already in full-blown holiday mode. In fact, they’ve been that way for a while.

I started listening to Christmas music back in October,” Simpson said during a December 6 chat with “Mercedes in the Morning” host Mercedes Martinez and co-host JC Fernandez.

Ashlee’s obsessed with Christmas,” Ross added. “I’m like, ‘Ashlee, you know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet.

The couple has been heavily promoting their debut EP, Ashlee + Evan, which dropped in October and features the hit song “I Do.” They’re starring in their own E! show titled, appropriately, Ashlee + Evan.

Looking ahead to their next Vegas appearance, Simpson and Ross are promising a “surprise” when they take the stage for “Not So Silent Night” alongside fellow performers Blue October, Matt Nathanson, and Brynn Elliott.

To reveal the surprise would spoil it, but surely the couple will make room on their setlist for tracks from Ashlee + Evan. We’ll also keep our fingers crossed for some classic holiday duets and some of Simpson’s most popular singles.

In the meantime, you might be able to spot Ross somewhere on the Strip, where the actor and famed son of singer Diana Ross is known to play Baccarat and Blackjack. Simpson, however, is more likely to be up in her hotel room.

I like room service and movies,” she said.
